The Tourism Administration of Thailand stated that it plans to further relax restrictions on inbound foreign tourists from October 1st, and implement the "sandbox plan" in more areas, that is, the plan for exempting inbound travel from isolation. According to the "Sandbox Plan", Thailand will first allow foreign tourists who have completed the new crown vaccination to directly enter the capital Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Chonburi, Phetchaburi and Prachuap Khiri Khan provinces for travel without having to stay in hotels Isolate for 14 days. Moreover, by the end of October, 21 other provinces including Chiang Rai, Sukhothai and Rayong will also implement the "Sandbox Project."
Prior to this, Thailand took the lead in implementing the "Sandbox Project" in Phuket on July 1, opening its doors to international tourists. The term "sandbox", originally a professional term in the field of computer security, refers to a security mechanism that provides an isolated environment for running programs. The significance of Phuket as a "sandbox" is to provide an isolated experimental field for the continuous opening of the whole territory of Thailand.
Tourism is vital to Thailand’s economy. Before the outbreak of the new crown epidemic, tourism income could account for 20% of Thailand's national income.
