According to a Reuters report on September 23, an annual survey released on Thursday local time showed that the optimism of US companies on the status of China's business has recovered and reached a three-year high.
The American Chamber of Commerce in Shanghai conducted this survey with PricewaterhouseCoopers China, and the Chamber of Commerce attributed the rise in optimism to increased revenue and weakened concerns about the epidemic in China. China has largely controlled the spread of the epidemic through a zero tolerance policy.
According to reports, Sino-US relations fell to a trough during Trump's administration in 2019. The Trump administration launched a fierce trade war against China and imposed sanctions on some very well-known Chinese technology companies.
However, the Biden administration has been more cautious in taking direct action against Beijing, but relations between the two sides remain tense.
"Business in China quickly recovered from last year's blockade." said Kerr Gibbs, president of the American Chamber of Commerce in Shanghai. The investigation released by the chamber of commerce was conducted from mid-June to mid-July.
He said: "However, we still feel the impact of the epidemic, and members continue to be negatively impacted by China's travel restrictions. The overall business performance is good, but there are signs of tension."
According to the survey, 78% of the 338 companies interviewed said they were “optimistic or slightly optimistic” about their company’s five-year business outlook in 2021, which was nearly 20 percentage points higher than in 2020 and rose to 2018 level.
In addition, about two-thirds of the respondents said that they plan to increase the number of employees in China this year, which is an increase of 31.4 percentage points from 2020.
