Xinhua News Agency, Wellington, September 25. The 2021 Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Women and Economic Forum will be held online on the 24th. The forum called for promoting gender equality and strengthening women's economic empowerment to promote more inclusive, effective and sustainable economic growth after the new crown epidemic.
The statement issued by the forum stated that relevant ministers, officials and business leaders of the participating member economies pledged to take measures to increase women’s access to capital and market access, promote women’s labor participation, increase women’s opportunities for management positions, and support women’s education, Training and skills development.
Member economies also agreed to promote women’s participation in economic activities by addressing gender-based pay gaps and occupational discrimination, as well as discriminatory legal and regulatory obstacles faced by female entrepreneurs.
The Minister of Women of New Zealand, Jan Tinetti, who chaired the forum, said that the epidemic has forced many women to lose their jobs and affected their well-being. She said that women have undertaken many important tasks. As scientists, medical professionals, and educators, they have played a key role in the response to the epidemic.
Tinetti said that the current epidemic challenge also provides a good opportunity to change the status quo and allow women to fully realize their potential to benefit society, and achieving this goal will give an important impetus to economic growth under the epidemic.
New Zealand is the rotating chairman of APEC in 2021.
