At the ongoing 18th China-ASEAN Expo and China-ASEAN Business and Investment Summit, the General Administration of Customs and the People's Government of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region released the China-ASEAN Trade Index. Data show that the China-ASEAN trade index in 2020 will increase by 141.09% compared to 2010.
This index was released at the China-ASEAN Economic and Trade Cooperation Forum on the 30th anniversary of the establishment of a dialogue relationship between China and ASEAN, one of the CAEXPO series of forums.
It is reported that the China-ASEAN Trade Index has established a scientific and reasonable indicator system with characteristics of China-ASEAN trade from the five dimensions of trade closeness, trade quality, trade potential, trade vitality and trade environment, which will provide science for government departments to formulate trade policies. The basis is to provide information support for the high-level "going out" and high-quality "bringing in" of import and export enterprises.
Statistics show that since 2010, the overall trade situation between China and ASEAN has been improving, and the China-ASEAN trade index has continued to rise. The China-ASEAN trade index in 2020 is 241.09 points, an increase of 19.64% over 2019.
This year marks the 30th anniversary of the establishment of dialogue relations between China and ASEAN. In the past 30 years, the scale of China-ASEAN trade has expanded 85 times. In 2020, ASEAN will become China's largest trading partner. In the first half of this year, the bilateral trade volume increased by 38.2% year-on-year, continuing to maintain a strong momentum.
Rapid growth of trade scale and structural optimization
In the past 30 years, the trade between China and ASEAN has undergone tremendous changes. According to customs statistics, China-ASEAN bilateral trade increased from 8.36 billion U.S. dollars in 1991 to 685.28 billion U.S. dollars in 2020, an average annual growth rate of 16.5%, which was 3.4 percentage points higher than the overall average annual growth rate of China's foreign trade during the same period.
Since the establishment of the dialogue relationship between China and ASEAN in 1991, China and ASEAN countries have become increasingly close to each other. In 2010, the China-ASEAN Free Trade Area was fully completed; in 2013, China and ASEAN joined hands to build a closer China-ASEAN community with a shared future; in 2019, China- The "Protocol" for the upgrade of the ASEAN Free Trade Area has fully taken effect, and the development of bilateral economic and trade has achieved world-renowned achievements.
Before the 1990s, China's imports and exports to ASEAN were of few types and small scale of trade. Since then, labor-intensive products represented by textiles and garments have gradually increased the proportion of China's exports to ASEAN, and imports of crude oil, rubber and logs from ASEAN have increased significantly during the same period.
In the 21st century, China’s exports of mechanical and electrical products, textiles and clothing, steel, mobile phones, ships, furniture, fruits, automobiles, and pharmaceuticals to ASEAN are increasing; it imports agricultural products, rubber, oil, natural gas, coal and other primary products and resources from ASEAN. -Type products maintained rapid growth. Complementary trade structures between the two sides have gradually formed.
