1. Cooling tower shell material: galvanized steel plate

Galvanized steel cooling towers, while relatively inexpensive, are the most prone to corrosion and therefore may have a shorter service life than stainless steel cooling towers. Galvanizing of steel delays corrosion of the underlying steel because it corrodes steel preferentially. However, once a portion or strip of galvanizing is damaged, the sheet metal beneath it can corrode rapidly.

Another option is a hybrid cooling tower, which consists of a stainless steel sink or basin with a galvanized metal upper wall. This generally provides better durability and is less expensive than an all stainless steel cooling tower compared to an all galvanized construction.

2. Cooling tower shell material: FRP

Fiberglass fiber reinforced plastic (FRP) has been used as cooling tower shell material for some time. When pultruded FRP is heavy enough, it can withstand the load of the cooling tower and provide good corrosion protection. At the same time, high-quality fiberglass towers are much cheaper than stainless steel towers.

3. Fiberglass shell material: engineering plastics

Instead, an integrated corrosion-resistant engineering plastic (HDPE) cooling tower production line was introduced.
