When manufacturing refrigerated trucks, how to choose between polyurethane insulation board and polystyrene insulation board?

1. Different foaming mechanisms

Hard foam polyurethane is a two-component liquid (commonly known as black, white material) after full mixing, rapid chemical reaction curing (tens of seconds to a few minutes), foaming agent, catalyst, foaming agent and other additives foaming into high closed cell ratio & GT; 90% light foam body with net structure belongs to thermosetting foam.

Polystyrene foam (EPS, XPS) is made of granular material or powdery material by heating swelling, foaming agent vaporization expansion, through mold or extrusion mechanical molding of foam body, granular structure, thermoplastic foam, high sensitivity to temperature, there is the potential of secondary foaming.

2.Foams have different physical and chemical properties

(1) Thermal insulation performance

Polystyrene foam insulation is good, but compared with hard foam polyurethane, λ is relatively large, such as λ≈ 0.04W/K •m for EPS board, λ≈ 0.031W/K •m for XPS board, and λ≈ 0.022W/K •m for PUR board. On the premise of the same energy-saving index, the thickness of insulation board can be reduced and the quality stability of insulation system can be improved.

(2)Thermal stability

The thermal stability of rigid polyurethane can be as high as 120℃, while the thermal stability of benzene plate is only 70℃. China's summer exterior wall surface temperature is generally 70℃ or more than 70℃, such a temperature is easy to cause the secondary foam of benzene board, resulting in plate cracks.

(3) Surface binding energy

Polyurethane molecular chain has a certain OH bond, that is, hydrophilic gene, easy to bond with cement-based slurry, and polystyrene has no -OH bond, is a hydrophobic material, its surface is difficult to fuse with cement-based slurry and other inorganic materials, which is also one of the main reasons for the cracking, hollow drum and falling off of the external insulation system of benzene board.
