Product Structure
Sandwich structures act like I-beams when subjected to bending loads, with I-beam fins (such as panels in a sandwich structure) carrying in-plane compressive and tensile loads, and I-beam webs carrying shear loads (such as structural core in a sandwich structure). As a result of the further separation of the distance between the upper and lower panels, the structure acquires a greater proportion of stiffness, as in conventional I-beams. A thicker core achieves the same effect, but it also provides a lower overall specific gravity, resulting in a higher stiffness-to-weight ratio.
